Please find attached, for comment, the League Selection System proposed by the Committee nominated at the Special Annual General Meeting.
We unfortunately do not have much time before the league starts on the 24th of July. I thus ask that you study the attached document and send your comments, addressed to the special committee Chairman, Clark Coetzee (clarkcoet@gmail.com) or myself by the 7th of July (This Wednesday).
We are also fully aware that adoption may take some time to get used to and may not please everyone initially, but we ask every member to accept this change in good faith for the next 12 months and then to provide feedback so that we can fine-tune the rules if necessary.
In setting up this challenge system and league selection rules, cognisance has and should be taken of what makes the Irene Tennis Club so special i.e. to operate in a friendly, fun and competitive manner in conjunction with the ethics pertaining to the game of "tennis".
The ladder will be put onto the notice board by Ambre later today. It has been drawn up according to the 2010 Doubles championships results (and 2009 singles where singles was played). Those members that did not play the champs were then placed subjectively below those that did. This must be seen as a departure point from which we can move forward to a more objective league selection and ladder system. We thus encourage everyone to use their free challenge as soon as possible to achieve this aim.
After a tremendously successful Wimbledon W/E run by Erika, I am more convinced than ever that we have something very special at Irene Tennis. After this W/E we have many people wanting to join the club and even clubs wanting to amalgamate with Irene. They do not want to join because we have the best rules in place or the strongest players/leagues but rather because of the fun and family atmosphere we have created over many years playing social tennis, running parent child days, social functions and the like. The results will follow. As chairman of the club I will ensure that we stick to our core values as per our mission statement and ensure that our core values remain intact.
