The mission of the ICC tennis section is to operate as an individual section of The Irene Country Club in a friendly, fun and competitive manner in conjunction with the ethics pertaining to the game of "tennis".  We strive to encourage family activity and pledge to uphold the Constitution, Rules and Regulations of the Irene Country Club

The Irene Tennis Club has the most beautiful setting and facilities in Pretoria. We are a very active section of the Irene Country Club with six tennis courts. Saturday Afternoon Socials start at 13h30 and we play tennis until late in the evening. Tuesday and Thursday evening socials start at 16h00. We also have squad training for league members as well as members new to tennis.

Though we don’t often see him Rik de Voest (South Africa’s number two tennis player) is also a member of the club and uses it as his base when in South Africa. Rik is a regular at the US Open and Wimbledon. Rik still calls Irene home.

The club strives to encourage “family” activity. Many of our members also have children who participate in our junior leagues. We currently have about 50 children in our junior system and juniors actively participate in the Junior leagues, Squads, Saturday junior social, and adult leagues..

Our league teams continue to do well. In the last seven years we have never had a team relegated to a lower league and it is no surprise that we consistently win most of our matches. Though winning is important; it’s the fun element that is emphasized.

Members will notice lots of coaching activities throughout the day with three resident coaches. Andri Tiran is head of the coaching at Irene.

The Irene Country Club also runs a very successful tennis development program. This program is arguably one of the best development programs in South Africa. In 2007 Murray and Roberts awarded the club a second place in their Jack Cheetham award and we walked away with R50 000. These juniors come from disadvantaged communities. Seven of these children have played provincial tennis and one has played in the South African schools side.

Events on our calendar include Wimbledon day (played in the winter on the cricket field to coincide with the real event), Club challenge competition, Parent child with a huge bonfire afterwards, the various leagues and of course club championships
