To facilitate quick perusal of the email, note that news not previously shared or still important is in bold andthe rest that has been shared, but is still relevant isnot bold.
Please take special note that the order of play will be available on Thursday. Next week it will be out by Tuesday. The reason for the delay is that Andri’s pc packed up and will only be repaired by Wednesday. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
Please remember to bring your championship fee of R70 on Saturday. This must be paid to Andri prior to the start of play.
Note that we have appointed an ICC Tennis administrator. Ambre Jones will be handling this portfolio. Kindly contact her at icc.tennis.ctte@gmail.com
We will hold a braai on Saturday 6 March and 13 March. The cost to members for a braai pack will be approximately R20. ICC Tennis is subsidizing the costs.
Please email us at icc.tennis.ctte@gmail.com and let us know if you will be joining us. We need to know how many braai packs to order.
Thank you to the members who have agreed to do board duty. The schedule of duties is listed below.
We have had enquiries from members who wish to play singles. Please contact Ambre and let her know if you would like to be included in this group. The initial idea is to play from 11h00 to 13h00 on a Saturday morning.

PEG BOARD SYSTEM, RULES and COMMITTEE DUTIES
*****************************************************
At the outset, we wish to state that our aim is to make ICC social tennis a happy and satisfying experience for all members.
There is unfortunately not a system in existence that satisfies all members.
Please let us know whether you have a preferred name that isdifferentfrom your Christian name or the spelling of your name isincorrect.
We will be redoing the pegboard names and would like to ensure that these are accurate.
However, in order to accomplish our goal (satisfied members), we have implemented the following new rules :
- A board member/volunteer is to be on duty on Saturdays from 13h00 to 17h00. He/she is responsible for the administration of the board according to the peg board rules.
- The person on duty must set up the peg board on arrival and remove it at the end of the day.
- Balls for Saturday social are available from the main clubhouse (store room). The person on duty is responsible for the balls and must sign for their collection. It is requested that only the required number of tins be opened. He/she is responsible for the return of the balls.
- The person on duty is also responsible for the selection of the best 6 balls for Thursday evening social.
- The person on duty must welcome new members and assess their strength of play as well as that of any visitors. (Beginner / club player (intermediate) / advanced.)
- The person on duty is to ensure that the board runs smoothly, fairly and without prejudice. He/she may use his/her discretion w.r.t. the selection of players ONLY if the person at the ‘selection position’ is a beginner, a new member, an unapproved junior or a visitor.
- The person on duty may not play tennis on that day.
- The reason for this is that a) the junior/beginner court is runbythe person on duty and b) it requires thought and awareness on the part of the duty member to arrange games that are fair especially where members have played some weak sets (to accommodate beginners) and should then get an opportunity to have stronger sets to make their afternoon satisfactory.
- Each member has their own peg with their name on it. As players arrive they place their pegs in the queue to play.
- The person in first position (‘selection position’) must indicate his/her selection of four players from the top row (only) to the person on duty.
- It is generally good etiquette to pick the player who has been waiting the longest but also try to pick an even set.
- If your four have just come off court and there are only four or five players in the queue, it is suggested that you wait for another court to finish before making your selection to enable a rotation of players.
- The person in the ‘selection position’ may however, select their 4 at any stage even if the top row is not full. If the top row is full, theymustmake their selectionimmediately.
- The person on duty is to place the selected 4 in thepending1stposition. This can be repeated if the first row can be filled up again. Place them in the pending 2ndposition. Repeat for pending 3rdif there are enough players.
- The rest of the pegs are moved up to fill the gap.
- The person on duty must remove the tags from thecourt sectionimmediately when the players are walking off the court, replace them with the selected 4 in the pending 1stposition and send the players onto the court. Pending 2ndposition moves to 1stand so on. He/she must then replace the 4 pegs of the persons coming off the court at the end of the queue, ensuring that the winners are placed in front of the losers.
- Points 13 - 15 are then repeated immediately.
- Players are not to take the pegs onto the court.
- Once players have been selected, they may not refuse to play.
- Should a player decide to remove their peg (not encouraged), they may only slot in at the end of the queue.
- These rules will ensure that members do not sit out for more than 2 sets before they have the opportunity to select a set.
MOST importantly, we are appealing to tennis members, who are not on the committee, to make themselves available for board duty. If there are enough volunteers, this duty will only be required once, or at most, twice a year. Please email Lynnette as soon as possible onlynnette.jinks@qmuzik.comif you are willing to commit to assisting us.
It is really easy to criticize a system/person running the board but meaningful input can really only be given if you have taken a turn at running the board.
